In 2012 - Exact Dates for Amarnath Yatra in 2012 are yet not fixed but it will begin most probably in July and and will remain till August.


Location of Amarnath Cave :- Amarnath 'the popular pilgrimage destination of India' is located at the distance of 363 kms from Jammu via Pahalgam and around 414 kms from Jammu via Baltal. Every year during the month of July/August the icy Shiva Lingam is formed of its own according to the change in wanes ad waxes of moon cycle. The cave is visited by more than 25,000 pilgrims annually.

It is located adjacent to Lidder Valley at the height of 4,175 meters, the cave is around 90 feet long and 150 feet high. Apart from Shiv ling there are three four more ice formations inside the cave which resembles figures of different God's and Goddess. The climatic conditions at Amarnath are quite unpredictable. Rain and snowfall are common and can happen any time during the journey to the Amarnath Caves. Usually the temperature remains low and can fall down to even 5 degree C.

Significance of Amarnath Yatra :
This is the same cave which was chosen by Lord Shiva (Bhole Nath) for narrate the facts of immorality and formation of universe to Goddess Parvati. The legend goes like this :-
Once Goddess Parvati asked Shiva that why and when did he started wearing Mund Mala. On this Bhole shankar replied that every time you are born I add one more head in my beads. Parvati ji said – Why do I die and why my body is destroyed every time? And on the other side you are immortal. Lord Shiva said : - All this happen due to Amar Katha.

Goddess Parvati insisted him to reveal the secret. Firstly Shiva ji continued postponing. But later on he agreed to reveal the ultimate 'Universal Truth' to the Mata Parvati. He started searching for the lonely place where no living being could listen to the tale. He left Chandi at Pahalgam, his snake on the banks of the lake, his son Ganesha at Mahagunas and moon at Chandanwari. Apart from that he left all the five elements (Earth , Water, Air , Fire and Sky)at Panjtarni.

After leaving all these elements Bhole Shankar went to Amarnath Cave with Ma Parvati and starting narrating the whole story of immorality. But by chance one egg which was lying beneath deer Skin where he took Samadhi remained protected. The pair of pigeons which were born out of this egg heard the secret of immorality and so they also became immortal.

Wildlife Tour to Wayanad National Park


Wayanad National Park sets in the unblemished bewitching scenic surrounds of the Indian state of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The wildlife sanctuary is a part of the Nilgiri Biospheres Reserves, which is first among the fourteen bio-reserves in the country. Spread on an extensive area of 345 sq. km., Wayanad is the second largest national park in Kerala. Fauna of Wayanad National Park :

The jungles of Wayanad National Park abound in a variety of wildlife that includes elephants, tigers, gaur, sloth, cheetal, leopards, dholes, jackals and many more. Apart from animals, the sanctuary is home to a large number of avifaunal species which include crested serpent eagle, red-wattled lapwings, crested hawk eagle, king vulture, malabar grey hornbill and nightjars. Some species of butterfly can also be spotted including the common leopard butterfly.

A drive in the park :

You can drive inside the park for as long as you want, till the time you leave. The gates close at 6:30 pm after which no vehicles are allowed to enter. You can expect to see herds of deer, wild pigs and gaurs in large number, or if you are luck than may be tigers. You are requested to keep silence and do not disturb the animals. To enjoy more visibility do not horn, so that you can even photograph animals and birds from your vehicle. The best time for animal viewing are the early hours of the morning and late evening.

Birding :

The deciduous forests of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary attract large number of domestic and migratory birds. Peacock, Babblers, Cuckoos, Owl, Woodpecker and Jungle Fowl are the few common sightings in the park. Watch the birds enjoying gossips and sharing thoughts of their homeland. There is also an abundance of insect life.

Things to see Around Port Blair and South Andaman


South Andaman is the most heavily populated region of the Andaman Islands, particularly around the capital, Port Blair. Some areas of the islands restricted for the foreign tourists, however permit can be obtained from the Home Ministry.

Sightseeing Destinations :

Ross Island :


Located at the entrance of the Port Blair, Ross Island was once the administrative head quarters of British Colonial Rulers. Ross witnessed some of the most brutal excesses of British colonial history and was the source of the prison's infamy as Kalapani.

The island still houses the ruins of old buildings like Ballroom, Chief Commissioner’s House, Govt. House, Church, Hospital, Bakery, Press, Swimming Pool and Troop Barracks, all in dilapidated condition, reminiscent of the old British regime. Ross Island can be accessible from Phoenix Bay Jetty that depart at 8:30 am, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm and 2 pm Thursday to Tuesday.

Viper Island :

Mt Harriet :
Mt Harriet was once the summer headquarter of the Chief Commissioner during British Raj. Situated at a height of about 365 meters from the sea level, Mount Harriet is the highest point near Port Blair. The richly forests slopes of Mt Harriet are ideal for trekking. Wandur National Park :
Wandur National Park also known as Mahatma Gandhi National Park, is located 30 km south of Port Blair. The Wandur National Park is known for its rare marine life. The Olive Ridley Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea), Hawskbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Leatherback Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), and Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) make their nesting grounds on the beaches of the islands in Wandur National Park.

Little Andaman


The beautiful Island with widespread rain forests lies at the southern end of the Andaman Islands. Connected by boat from Port Blair10 hours a day, it provides an ideal holiday for eco-friendly tourists. It was declared as the tribal reserve in 1957. Sprawling to the total area of 739 sq kms , it is the fourth largest part of the Great Andaman archipelago.

It is one of the remotest region, inhabited by Onge tribe, who were relocated to the tribal reserve in 1977when the government start developing the is land for the purpose of agriculture and logging. The tribal Reserves is not opened for the foreigners. Little Island is home to the rare species of the marine turtles, founded in large number here.

Little Andaman offers the excellent scenic beauty and Beautiful Beaches. Butler Bay (15 km from Hut Bay) is one of the most popular beach location here. It is ideal location for surfing, swimming, sun bathing, etc. The tourists hut is available right on the sandy shore flanked by the coconut plantations. Another exciting beach here is the Netaji Nagar Beach, ideal for sun basking, but not for snorkeling.

If you looking for some soft adventure you can picnic at White Surf, located in the midst of the evergreen rain forest. You can also indulge in elephant safari to the nearby jungles.

Major part of the Little Andaman was badly affected by the tsunami and most of the population temporarily migrated to Port Blair from here. Development plans were all shattered. Andaman and Nicobar Forest Plantation Development Cooperation of developing a 1500 hectare red oil palm plantation was also damaged. Relief work is still underway in the area.

Neil Island - Andaman and Nicobar Islands


Neil Island is another most important tourism destinations of the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is located at the distance of 40 km north-east of Port Blair. The island is becoming popular for its pristine beaches, laid back ambiance and great snorkelling. The government of India and private travel agencies are promoting eco tourism here. Neill with its dazzling beaches is quite popular among the foreigners.

As compared to Havelock island, Neill is comparatively very small. It boosts of three beaches, all them them are within the easy cycling distance from each other. Sitapur Beach :

Exposed to the open sea and thus prone to higher tides, Sitapur beach, 6-km south at the tip of the island, is also appealing and has a advantage of a sandy bottom extending into the sea.
