Wildlife Tour to Wayanad National Park
Wayanad National Park sets in the unblemished bewitching scenic surrounds of the Indian state of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The wildlife sanctuary is a part of the Nilgiri Biospheres Reserves, which is first among the fourteen bio-reserves in the country. Spread on an extensive area of 345 sq. km., Wayanad is the second largest national park in Kerala. It was established in the year 1973 and falls under the Project Tiger which wad launched in the year 1991 to save the diminishing population of the wild elephants. The sanctuary remains open throughout the year, except for the monsoon months (April- September). However October to February would be the best time for a visit.
Flora of Wayanad National Park :
The exotic flora of Wayanad National Park attracts people from all over the world. The deciduous forests consists of trees like maruthi, rosewood, vengal, karimaruthi, mazhukanjiram, chadachi and many many more and the semi deciduous forests has trees like- Lagerstroemia, Termianalia paniculata, Lanceolata, veteria indica. Eucalyptus and bamboo are grown here for industrial purposes.
Fauna of Wayanad National Park :
The jungles of Wayanad National Park abound in a variety of wildlife that includes elephants, tigers, gaur, sloth, cheetal, leopards, dholes, jackals and many more. Apart from animals, the sanctuary is home to a large number of avifaunal species which include crested serpent eagle, red-wattled lapwings, crested hawk eagle, king vulture, malabar grey hornbill and nightjars. Some species of butterfly can also be spotted including the common leopard butterfly.
Things to see and do :
A drive in the park :
You can drive inside the park for as long as you want, till the time you leave. The gates close at 6:30 pm after which no vehicles are allowed to enter. You can expect to see herds of deer, wild pigs and gaurs in large number, or if you are luck than may be tigers. You are requested to keep silence and do not disturb the animals. To enjoy more visibility do not horn, so that you can even photograph animals and birds from your vehicle. The best time for animal viewing are the early hours of the morning and late evening.
Birding :
The deciduous forests of the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary attract large number of domestic and migratory birds. Peacock, Babblers, Cuckoos, Owl, Woodpecker and Jungle Fowl are the few common sightings in the park. Watch the birds enjoying gossips and sharing thoughts of their homeland. There is also an abundance of insect life.

For that daring tour, take a walking tour exploring the jungles. Also take a guide along with yourself, who can give you the better insight of the forest.
